The Daniel Baird Foundation Charity

About The Daniel Baird Foundation

The Daniel Baird Foundation was established in memory of Daniel Baird, who tragically lost his life at the age of 26.

In the early hours of July 8, 2017, Daniel was fatally stabbed outside The Forge Tavern in Digbeth, Birmingham, after a night out with friends. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Daniel died shortly after due to catastrophic bleeding. At the scene, there was no first aid or bleeding control kit available, which might have made a difference.

The Mission

The foundation is dedicated to ensuring that such tragedies can be prevented in the future, with publicly accessible bleeding control kits being available in all major shopping centres, pubs, clubs, public transport stations, and other public areas. These kits can provide the necessary first aid to reduce blood loss until professional medical help arrives. For the cost of a kit, a life could be saved, sparing families from lifelong grief.

“As the founder of The Daniel Baird Foundation and Daniel’s mother, our charity aims to raise awareness about the critical need for publicly accessible bleeding control packs. We are thrilled to partner with TraumaMed Solutions, whose expertise with Control the Bleed is invaluable. Their team’s knowledge and experience will greatly support the Daniel Baird Project.”

Importance of Bleeding Control Kits

Catastrophic bleeds can occur not only from violent incidents but also from car accidents or work-related injuries. The availability of bleeding control packs in public spaces is crucial. These kits, designed to help control and stop severe bleeding before emergency services arrive, can significantly improve survival rates.

The Goals

The Daniel Baird Foundation aims to:

Raise Awareness

Raise Awareness

Highlight the importance of having publicly accessible bleeding control packs.

Collaborate

Collaborate

Work with local government organisations, community groups, and businesses to distribute these kits widely.

Advocate for Training

Advocate for Training

Campaign for First Aid Training to include catastrophic bleeding control as a mandatory component and for Advanced First Aid to be part of the curriculum in educational establishments.

Why This Matters

Response times are critical. In London, it takes an average of seven minutes and 44 seconds for an ambulance to respond to a category 1 incident, yet bleeding from serious injuries can be fatal in as little as three minutes. Bleed control kits are now available in several areas across the UK, and we aim to increase their presence to reduce deaths from catastrophic bleeding.

Empowering Communities

The Bleed Control Kits support the principles of:

  • Minimising the Impact of Serious Violence: Quickly de-escalating and containing violence
  • Empowering Communities: Strengthening community resilience, promoting positive behavioural choices, and working together to prevent and reduce serious violence

Contents of Bleed Control Kits

The kits contain essential items like dressings and bandages designed to seal wounds and control severe bleeding, along with basic instructions that could save a life while waiting for an ambulance. The first few minutes after an injury are often critical in preventing death due to severe bleeding.

By increasing public awareness and confidence in using these kits, The Daniel Baird Foundation hope to decrease the number of deaths throughout the UK caused by catastrophic bleeding.

Join us in our mission to make bleed control kits a standard part of public safety infrastructure, potentially saving countless lives.
